A quick look at our favorite new releases from NOMOS at Baselworld 2018.

NOMOS Tangente Neomatik 41

The new Tangente 41 possesses all the strengths that made NOMOS and their iconic model famous but is technically more advanced, slightly larger, and has a completely new, unique date.

Fine German watchmaking with Bauhaus-inspired designs and incredible value for money: That’s what NOMOS is famous for. This year, the Glashütte-based manufacturer stuck to their roots, while adding even more watchmaking expertise. Three of their iconic models – Tangente, Orion, and Ludwig – received a completely redeveloped caliber with a new date mechanism. We think the new Tangente 41 is the most interesting of the lot.

The watch is still an understated, classic timepiece on a black Horween Cordovan leather strap that you can wear every day for decades to come. The first changes can be seen on the stainless steel case, which is now slightly larger at 40.5 mm and contains a clean dial with a small seconds subdial at six o’clock.

But the biggest news is in the movement. The new date mechanism allows adjustment both forward and backward. That may sound simple, but it is actually quite rare in mechanical watches. NOMOS also reinterpreted the date display with a date ring that is located around the edge of the dial and features two red dots that frame the current date. This is a great way to add a date display and still keep the minimalist look of the dial.

NOMOS Autobahn Neomatik 41

The new NOMOS Autobahn is a simple sports watch with design elements inspired by speed and a sense of motion. This is yet another example of NOMOS staying true to its roots while exploring new things.

At first glance, the watch is immediately identifiable as a NOMOS: minimalist shapes, clear typography, and pure timekeeping functions. If you then look closer, you’ll notice the curved, luminous markings on the upper part of the dial and a large, three-lane-wide date window. The textile strap gives it a relaxed, sporty character.

This new NOMOS model is for people who like their watches to stray a little from the beaten path.
