Daily Drivers: Great Watches for Under 5,000 Euros

IWC Schaffhausen Portuguese Chronograph 3714

The Portuguese Chronograph is truly a perfect allrounder. You can wear this dress watch every day and to every occasion. Apart from swimming or extreme sports, it can be your companion 365 days a year. On top of that, it’s a modern watchmaking icon and one of IWC’s most famous pieces.

With a slim, 41-mm case and a clean dial design, the IWC Portuguese is a subtle yet eye-catching timepiece that enthusiasts have appreciated since its introduction in 1998.

Enthusiast’s Corner: Rare or Exceptional Timepieces

MB&F Legacy Machine LM1

Some timepieces are more art than watch, as is arguably the case for each and every MB&F model ever produced. Their Horological Machines are always bold, controversial, and unique. When Max Büsser and Friends created their first Legacy Machine, they made sure to keep their rebellious nature while still moving in the direction of classic watch design.

The example you see here can be worn like a luxury watch and yet is still different from 99% of the market. On the front, you have not only two classic subdials displaying separate time zones but also three-dimensional elements, the likes of which have never been seen before. The most striking feature is a flying balance wheel mounted on a bridge above the two subdials. This construction takes the heart of the watch and elevates it to a position of prominence. The bottom of the dial features a vertical power-reserve indicator that fits in perfectly with the rest of the design.

Iconic Timepieces: Great Value for Your Money

Zenith El Primero Chronomaster

How good is the El Primero movement? It’s so good that Rolex used it in the Daytona from 1987 to 2000. Of course, you can also find this fantastic machine in a wide range of Zenith models too. The Chronomaster is a special version of the regular El Primero Chronograph. It includes a full calendar with the day, date, and month as well as a moon phase indicator.

Even though it’s one of the most famous watches of all time, it’s not nearly as popular and sought-after as Rolex’s Submariner or Daytona. Therefore, you can get this technical masterpiece for a really great price compared to similar watches.
